Another case of inept action by highways

I live in Frome and work in Shepton Mallet, I notice on my daily commute along the A361 that work has commenced on erecting monoliths of post on approaches to the junctions on this route.

I presume on which the highways are going to erect larger signs than are already in place. Is someone at highways in cahoots with the sign manufactures, or is it simply a case of let's waste more taxpayers' money?

Whoever designed these new signs could have at least thought about using the new safety designed lattice work posts. I sincerely hope it never happens, but should an accident occur as it often does along this notoriously bad road and these posts are instrumental in causing injury or worse, I believe someone could and should be held liable for using something that is proved to be more dangerous where an alternative is readily available.

I accept it would not be reasonable to change all signposts without good reason, but as and when they are changed safety must come first. The road users should at least get some benefit from this waste, another case of Somerset Highways showing ineptocracy.
