Winscombe Ladies 2 Clevedon Ladies 4

A difficult friendly clash against a strong Clevedon side ended in a narrow defeat for Winscombe.

Winscombe created plenty of chances in the first half but a tightly-packed D meant they had to think creatively and play the ball around the defence.

Captain Kelly Clarke and Gabby Richardson led the attacks but Michelle Isgar was also in the action at the back to deny Clevedon a breakaway goal.

Jade Barry and Keri Willis continued to make inroads for Winscombe but still they were unable to break the deadlock, while Julie O'Sullivan exploited gaps in the Clevedon back-line.

The visitors opened the scoring against the run of play but Winscombe rallied to draw level from a short corner, with Kelly Clarke sending the ball home.

Clevedon's response was just as swift, however, as they regained the lead before half-time.

Winscombe continued to work the ball around well as the second half got under way, with Claudia Routhorn-James combining with Chloe Brown to set up more chances.

This pressure chances eventually paid off when Keri Willis found Leanne Gardner to level the match once more.

Clevedon upped the ante, though, and Winscombe had to rely on strong defending from keeper Kate Walker, Caroline Marsh and Megan Coe to keep them at bay.

The visitors were not to be denied, though, and scored two goals in quick succession to snatch the win.

John Hodge Solicitors player of the match: Jade Barry.
