Priddy is a notable exception to the list of primary and secondary villages in Mendip District Council's Local Plan.
Primary villages are those with at least a primary school, a community venue, either a pub or a village hall, a shop able to meet a range of daily needs and a "journey to work" bus service.
Secondary ones meet most but not all these requirements.
Some Priddy villagers are now worried that their home now falls into the other village or hamlet category.
They are concerned that this will have consequences for the provision of services and planning applications. They have started a petition to have Priddy reclassified as either a primary or secondary village.
It will be sent as part of the consultation process for the Local Plan on January 22.
Anyone wishing to add their signature to the petition can find it in the village shop or of the village pubs.
