The 2013 season at Mendip Golf Club started with a bang when a record entry of 132 players took part in the Captains' Drive-in competition.
Using a shotgun start, the competitors were able to use main greens and tees, despite the recent weather.
With the main field full, those who missed out on entry to the competition made use of Little Mendip, a six-hole academy course.
Members then gathered in the clubhouse for a meal and speeches from new captain Hugh Glandfield and ladies' captain Linda Brobson.
They announced that the club would be supporting the Multiple Sclerosis Society and National Osteoporosis Society charities this season.
Meanwhile, the club presented a cheque for £12,000 to Macmillan Cancer Support at its annual Christmas dinner.
Captains Terry Russell, Colin Davies (seniors) and Elaine Kitchenham (ladies) made the presentation, taking the total raised for the charity over the last ten years to more than £120,000.
Meanwhile, Russell, Doug Thompson and Jim Boyce were victorious at the seniors' Turkey Trot.
It was followed by the seniors' AGM, where Bob Smallcombe was confirmed as captain for 2013 and Geoff Mosley proposed as vice-captain.
