Street-based martial arts instructor Giles Richards has won many awards over the years – but he believes his latest success is the best of the bunch.

The 26-year-old was named as both instructor of the year and number one instructor in the UK at the recent Martial Arts Illustrated 2012 Hall of Fame awards in Staffordshire.

"I was blown away and very humbled," said Richards, who runs the Matt Fiddes Martial Arts School at Brookside School in Street.

"I was stood there in front of legends from all over the world – top fighters and instructors had flown in from everywhere, even as far as Thailand.

"It was an unbelievable experience and probably tops everything I have done. Big thanks to all my students and to everyone for helping me get this far."

Richards is no stranger to success, having been named as Matt Fiddes Martial Arts school owner of the year in 2008 and taking the instructor of the year accolades in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

He featured on the cover of Martial Arts Illustrated in September and writes a regular column for the magazine, which sells 50,000 copies each month.

"My classes are really getting busy, which is amazing, and I am working with some fantastic people from all walks of life," Richards added.

Street's Matt Fiddes Martial Arts School runs classes every Monday and Saturday for all ages and abilities. For more information, call Richards on 07527 275184.
