Mr Martin Orledge, of Shepton Mallet

The funeral service of Martin Orledge who passed away suddenly at home on July 4, aged 52, was held at St Peter and St Paul's Church, Shepton Mallet, on July 18, followed by cremation at the Mendip Crematorium.

The service was conducted by the Rev Preb Ivor Hughes and the tribute was given by Chris Ware.

Martin was born in Shepton Mallet and spent most of his life there. He was the eldest in the family having a sister and two brothers. He went to Bowlish school, then Whitstone where he was head boy.

After leaving school, he did his apprenticeship at Sheldon Engineers, Wells, qualifying as a mechanical engineer. Later he worked at various garages, Mendip Garage, Oakhill, Abbey Hill, Yeovil and Brian and David Motors, Midsomer Norton with car sales, then started up on his own as a car trader. He was involved in starting up the Heli-pad for Glastonbury Festival, at Winding Lake Farm, Pilton.

Martin was single but the love of his life for many years was Gill, and all the family have happy memories of days at Weymouth with his boat and water skiing.
