Winscombe Ladies 1 Bridgwater Ladies 2

A close-fought game ended in disappointment for Winscombe as they were edged out by Bridgwater.

Winscombe attacked well with Leanne Gardner, Kerri Willis, Megan Coe and Gabriella Richardson battling hard up front.

Midfielders Michelle Isgar and Chloe Brown worked tirelessly and captain Kelly Clark produced a solid performance.

Despite this, Bridgwater opened the scoring when Winscombe lost the ball and were left exposed in defence.

The home side were persistent in their pursuit of an equaliser and Gardner was unlucky not to convert a cross from the right.

A good ball out of defence from Charlie Edwards led to an attack and Kerri Willis was unlucky to see the keeper save her shot but Sarah Holland picked up the rebound to find Richardson, who levelled the scores.

Despite an outstanding performance in goal earning Kate Walker the player of the match award, Bridgwater managed to edge ahead again.

Winscombe went in search of another leveller and Edwards, Juju O'Sullivan, Caroline Marsh and Caitlin Flood provided good attacking balls but it was not enough to earn a share of the spoils.

Winscombe's second string were in prolific form as they saw off their Bridgwater counterparts.

A good early passage of play from the Combe midfield resulted in a superb cross from Trudie Lynham, which was converted by Claudia Routhorn-James.

The visitors' second goal came after a break from the midfield, with Hannah Quantick well placed to sweep home her first league goal for the club.

Winscombe's defence then made some timely interceptions to ensure the 2-0 lead remained intact at the break.

Routhorn-James added a third for Combe early in the second half before Bridgwater pulled one goal back after a quick pass out of defence.

Winscombe responded and consolidated their lead with goals from Becky Matthews and Routhorn-James, who completed her hat-trick with a well-timed finish.

John Hodge Solicitors player of the match: Vicky Calder.
