Knowle Ladies 2nd 1 Mid-Somerset Ladies 2nd 6

Despite struggling to field a side for their first game after Christmas, rampant Mid-Somerset hit Knowle for six.

The hosts capitalised on the absence of several key Mids players early on to break the deadlock.

Mids were keen to kick the year off with a win, however, and the returning Gillian Buzzard worked tirelessly in defence, looking as though she had never been away.

The visitors got themselves level soon afterwards when they were awarded a short corner, which was converted by Sarah Dowden.

Both sides continued to battle hard before the break, with Leanne Lambert winning several tackles in midfield and fighting to keep possession.

With the scoreline still level at the break, Mids moved Lorna Wickham into midfield and the switch soon paid dividends, with Carly Dutton taking advantage of the increased pressure to put the visitors ahead.

Amy Sawyer worked hard in defence to keep the ball out of the D, while Emily Halstead added a quickfire double after good work from Dutton, Nicki Dowds and Rebecca Dowden, who completed the rout with two late strikes of her own.

Players of the match: Lorna Wickham and Leanne Lambert.
