Cheddar Tennis Club put the jubilee bunting out for a tournament, with more than 20 children aged between six and ten taking part in mini red, mini orange or mini green events held.

As an open LTA tournament, players from a number of other clubs entered but tournament organiser and referee Peter Colton was particularly pleased that almost half the entrants were junior Cheddar members.

"It just shows how much enthusiasm there is for tennis in Cheddar and the popularity of the coaching at the club," said Colton.

All three events were run in a round-robin format, ensuring everyone had several matches, and all who took part were presented with a certificate.

The individual winners also received medals, with Rebecca Stowell (Millfield School) taking the mini red honours, Samuel Scott (Writhlington Club) winning the mini orange event and Hamish Maccormick (Hartswood, London) triumphant in the mini green competition.

The next tournament at Cheddar will be an open yellow ball matchplay event on July 1. For more information, call Peter Colton on 01934 742703.
